padding EdgeConnector works with industry standard products and protocols

EdgeConnector is compatible with many leading IP-based door controllers, as well as a wide range of cards and tags, door locking hardware and other standard components of a physical access system.

For example, the competitively priced HID Edge E400 door controller and R10 reader easily connects to your IP network and, through EdgeConnector, becomes fully integrated with your existing systems and servers, allowing door access to be controlled by iClass or Mifare cards and tags as well as hybrid smartcards supporting two factor PC logon and PKI security.

Compatibility information

Server software

Runs as a service on Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008, including server clusters and virtualised environments. Multiple instances can be installed as required to suit server and site topology, replication and redundancy scheme.

Client software

EdgeConnector delegated management software runs on Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7. Additional door and user management tools and APIs are also available on request:

Command line interface. An application that allows interaction with EdgeConnector through text commands or scripts that execute some door control functions such as opening or disabling a door or resetting alarms.

Web service interface. A web service extension API that runs behind Microsoft IIS is available, exposing the same set of functions that the EdgeConnector service provides to the user administration client software.

User directory

Microsoft Active Directory - no schema extension required. Attributes used for data storage can be changed or extended as required.

Other LDAP directories on request.

Door controllers

HID Edge, Edge Evo & VertX ranges. The HID Edge product range incorporates various complete boxed units that are designed to be deployed by the door and that can be powered over Ethernet (PoE) or via a separate power supply. Examples include the E400, EH400, ER40 and ERP40.

Door controllers provide reliable, industry-standard inputs and outputs for all kinds of door locks, sensors and exit buttons. Many locks, including standard 12V door strikes and mag-locks can be powered via PoE, or a local power supply can be used.

Other IP controllers on request.

Door readers

Compatible with any card technology reader with either Weigand or Hi-O interface.

Cards / tags

Any standard RFID technology, such as HID iClass, HID Prox, NXP Mifare, NXP DESfire, Sony FeliCa, NFC phones and tags, Watermark etc.. Any format, including 26-bit, 37-bit, Corporate 1000, 32-bit and 56-bit CSN. Multiple site codes allowed.

Client software links to multiple desktop USB readers (e.g. Omnikey 5321 or 5325) via Read-a-Card, a software utility for reading card IDs from contactless cards.

Other systems

Fully compatible with:

Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) smartcards (e.g. HID Crescendo, Gemalto .NET, PIV)
Identity Management platforms (e.g. Microsoft FIM - Forefront Identity Manager)

Advanced Integration

Various EdgeConnector APIs are available for developers and systems integrators:

EdgeConnector Manager API. An interface that provides the means to manage, monitor and operate door controllers and functions to retrieve and update a limited set of user and door attributes from the underlying user repository, without compromising directory security.
Extended Log Modules API. Support for a number of logging modules which will be called in sequence whenever a log event occurs. This allows the standard EdgeConnector logging options to be used in conjunction with custom logging functions, including writing to centralised event logs, SQL databases and/or alarm monitoring stations.
User Repository API. Offers the option to customise the link between EdgeConnector and the underlying user directory. Enables integration with non-standard or unsupported user databases, as well as other advanced functions.
